Good communication relies on good graphic design, and I have had the opportunity to do a lot of graphic design work throughout my career, focusing primarily on printed works.
Starting with A Field Guide to the Animals of Vernal Pools in 1999, I have written, designed, and/or produced a number of books. I love the experience of seeing my work coming off a press; smelling the ink, paper, and machinery of a print house. It's exciting to know that a project is coming to fruition.
This gallery shows examples of some of my book projects completed over the last several years.
Marketing
I have been the de facto marketing department for the Walden Woods Project throughout my time with the organization, producing our newsletters (in ancient times when we did a print newsletter), our Annual Appeal, program flyers, postcards, event invitations and program booklets, etc.
Flyers
The Walden Woods Project has a very busy public programming schedule, and we work hard to promote our workshop, professional development opportunities, and events. Flyers posted in the local communities is one of the primary ways we advertise.
Postcards
The Walden Woods Project uses printed postcards for a wide variety of programming outreach. Postcard design can be challenging, when there is a lot of information to convey in a small and regulated space.
Corporate Identity
I have had occasion to work on corporate identity for a few non-profits, including a rebranding exercise for the Walden Woods Project.

Other Stuff
We've done a variety of little marketing things over the years, some of which are here
Print Design - Illustration
I don't do a lot of illustration, but when I do, it's wildlife. The digital serigraphs are designed specifically for t-shirt production, so they are two- to five color designs for silk screen. Pen-and-ink and pencil work has typically had an intended use in a book or other project.
